Summary Statement
Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Training, and Licensure):
- To perform this job successfully, and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- M.D. or D.O. Degree
- Board Eligible or Board Certified Psychiatrist
- Professional experience of 3 years; experience in community field work desirable
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental
regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, public groups, and/or Board of Trustees
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity,
analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
- Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases
- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
- Must have and maintain a current Controlled Substances Registration Certificate from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administrationv
- Must have and maintain a current Physician License and Controlled Substance License from the State of California
- Must have and maintain a valid California Driver's License, maintain automobile insurance coverage and have access to an
automobile
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Completes Psychiatric Evaluation within two weeks of admission and annually thereafter
- Completes Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) upon admission and quarterly thereafter. AIMS is completed monthly for
residents exhibiting movement disorders
- Evaluates all available clinical data (including laboratory and other instrumental reports) pertaining to residents' physical
status
- on admission (routine tests)
- on all other occasions, when needed
- Performs clinical screening and referral of all conditions in need of consultation from medical, non-psychiatric specialties
- Reviews and follows up on treatment(s) ordered by other physicians
- Participates in the Individual Plan of Service (EPS) for each resident assigned, with special attention to all medical aspects
of the plan
- Reviews, approves and signs all Individual Plans of Service and Quarterly Reviews of assigned residents
- Documents resident's progress in progress notes at least monthly
- Explains medication effects and side-effects to resident and/or guardian upon admission with review of the Patient Medication
information (PMI) for each medication
- Obtains or reviews resident's and/or guardian's signature on the Consent To Treatment With Psychotropic Medication upon admission
and annually thereafter
- Prescribes, follows-up and reviews all prescribed neuroleptics
- Reviews all non-psychiatric medical orders and prescriptions
- Orders non-prescription, first aid, drugs (i.e. analgesics, antipyretics) as needed
- Performs individual and group psychotherapy according to IPS
- Performs family evaluation and therapy, singly or jointly with other members of the Team according to IPS
- Performs crisis intervention (by telephone pager) for all residents, during non-office hours as assigned, making daily reports to
assigned Clinical Manager by fax
- Consults and advises the clinical staff and Clinical Manager
- Provides vacation coverage as assigned
Additional Duties and Responsibilites:
- Participates in the Agency staff development and in-service education programs for both professional staff and (company)
staff
- Participates, in an advisory capacity, in program planning and policy formulation for the Agency
- Serves on Agency committees as assigned
- Any other assignments as requested by supervisor

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision
and distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
