Mental Health Counseling
We have about 14 full-time and part-time therapists who are licensed mental health professionals or master’s level interns working under the supervision of a licensed therapist. If necessary, the therapist will make home visits.
The programs we now have include:
Early Prevention and Screening Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) and Child Protective Services (CPS) for children and their families who are referred to us by Child Protective Services. Eligibility is determined through Medi-Cal or Child ACCESS. We see children as young as 4 years old and up through age 21. Each of these clients is authorized for a particular length of service.
General Mental Health (GMC) clients are able to use our counseling services if they have Medi-Cal. They will need to contact Adult ACCESS services and say they would like to be seen at The Effort. These clients are given 8 to 10 sessions of therapy.
Department of Health and Human Services includes many clients who are referred by Child Protective Services and most are adults. They receive 13 therapy sessions with the possibility of having more sessions authorized.
Private Pay clients pay from $30 to $134 per session, based on their income.
We can only provide sessions at $20 when we have graduate student therapists with space in their schedules. Private pay clients are self-referred; we see as many as we can schedule.
Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) refer clients to us several ways. Each EAP has particular rules and a certain number of allowed sessions. The Effort will help you find out what those requirements are so we can provide service. Call The Effort at 916-368-3100 to see if we have a current contract with your EAP.
The Ryan White Program is for people who are HIV positive or have AIDS, as well as their significant others. It is available when the client has exhausted all of his or her insurance for counseling sessions and has been denied any more counseling for HIV/AIDS-related emotional problems.
